A collection of short stories by Ernest Hemingway, is regarded to be one of his greatest works. In the title story the protagonist, a writer living in Africa, is on the verge of death and is awaiting a plane that might help him reach a hospital quickly in order to get treated. While waiting for the plane he begins ruminating on his achievements (which he is very complacent about) and his life. The story is written in the style of a narration from the protagonists point of view.
