The White Tiger is the debut novel of Aravind Adiga, published and winner of The Man Booker Prize in year 2008. The novel is a retrospective narration of the gripping and darkly humorous story of poor boy Balram Halwai via a letter to the Chinese President, before the latter's trip to India. This letter follows the journey of Balram's life. Balram was born in the village of Laxmangarh where he lived with his family. A smart and intelligent child he was forced to leave his school in order to help his family. His journey begins from Delhi where he works as a chauffeur at a rich landlord, and then runs away to Bangalore after killing his master and stealing all his money. He eventually turns into a successful entrepreneur by establishing his own taxi service. This book gives a wonderful insight into the India which most of its city dwellers don't relate to. It also throws the light on the struggles and challenges that plague rural India.
