This fantasy fiction by GRR Martin is second in the series titled A Song of Ice and Fire. It succeeds the popular A Game of Thrones. The plot of the novel covers the civil war amongst the seven kingdoms in Westeros after the death of king Robert of Westeros. The ensuing power struggle sees multiple twists and turns that engulfs the entire royal family and many noblemen in its wake. Throughout the novel, characters are often faced with decisions to choose between their love for those close to them and the greater interests of honor, duty and the realm.
