The plot follows the lives of four friends : Malcolm, Willem, JB, and Jude who move to New York City after graduating from college. Malcolm is an architect, JB is a painter, Willem is an actor and Jude works as a lawyer. While they are all close, Jude refuses to reveal details of his childhood. The book follows their lives and friendship over the years while dealing with setbacks like addiction. It explores the severe trauma Jude suffered during his childhood and its effect on their lives.
