A Writer's People

A Writer's People' is a contemplative biographical work of the critically acclaimed writer V.S.Naipaul. Naipaul, although Indian by origin, was born and raised in different continents. Consequentially, he has been an avid traveller and thinker. His ideas get reflected in his works and in this particular one he talks about the literary stalwarts who influenced his life, how the writings of the likes of Powell, Flaubert and Walcott heavily reflect in his own ideologies. The author discusses at length how he got introduced to different cultures, be it literary or otherwise, through the various gems in cultural history. Belonging from several different places as an individual, Naipaul goes on to talk about the effect of geographical culture on the writings of Gandhi and Nehru as well as his own, the art of portraying and concealing the same. This book is a fond reflection by V.S.Naipaul on his own life, the Indian in him kept alive through literary and folk tales from the subcontinent, and his fascination for history and writings from all ages and times.
