A well-respected English professor, Allan Grant is stalked by a young student who seems to be obsessed with him, sending him letters and watching him through the window of his study. The student, twenty-one year old Laurie Kenyon, has herself been a victim of child sexual abuse and a brutal kidnapping at the tender age of four. Such was the ordeal that she does not remember the details of her experience. One fine day, Grant is found murdered and there is only one suspect: Laurie. With no one at her side who understands her, Laurie only has one person to turn to: her sister and attorney Sarah. Ironically, her abductors are now renowned and revered evangelists, who fear that Laurie might end up recalling the ordeal. The rest of the story explores the questions would Laurie be able to remember her kidnappers, is she guilty of the alleged murder and what exactly was the after-effect of the childhood brutal kidnapping on the adult Laurie.
