Written by Carl Sagan, an astronomer, 'Cosmos' is essentially a book on science, which was written along with the development of a TV series of the same name. The book is broadly based on the simultaneous building of science and civilization. In the 13 chapters that the book is divided into, the author explains his belief in the existence of extra-terrestrial life. The evolution of the cosmos, according to him, allows for the thriving of life in all corners of the universe, even though they might be alien to life on Earth. He mixes biological and philosophical ideas of evolution and combines them with science to speculate about the future. Written in a conversational manner, the book is a light yet thought-provoking read.
