Freakonomics

This book, the debut work of both of its co-authors, is a collection of articles written with a non-traditional economics approach. The authors examine the influence of a host of factors - like incentives, heredity, neighborhood, etc. - to explore the real causes behind trends, unraveling multiple layers of facts and myth. The book encourages readers to discover interesting things when they apply statistical analysis to problems where one wouldn't normally think of using stats. A delightful read for those who wish to get a common-sensical perspective on the complex socio-economic issues around us.

An insightful read

Although the questions dealt with in Freakonomics are unique and widely disconnected from each other, there's a common thread that connects them: Incentives. Be it the sumo, the school teacher, or the foot soldier of a crack gang, these people had strong incentives(surprisingly, not always financial) to do what they did. This book encourages you to look beyond the obvious and trust statistics more than popular beliefs. Great read to think differently.
