Munshi Premchand is considered to be one of the best writers of the Indian subcontinent. His works are mostly pertaining to the state of Indian society and are mostly social or political satires. In his literary work, 'Pachtawa', Premchand writes about Pandit Durganath, a highly educated and learned man, with a firm faith in honesty. Working for the Zamindar, he is faced with plenty of enticing opportunities and yet, he does not sway from his path of righteousness. When confronted by a choice of choosing between his ethics and his loyalty to the Zamindar, Durganath chooses to stick to his values over everything else. This story narrates Durganath's story in a society of corruption and how his life faces challenges at each step.
