Penned by Kalidas, the venerated Sanskrit poet, 'Raghuvansh' is an epic poem which is translated into Hindi from the original Sanskrit text. Kalidas, in this celebrated work of his that dates back to the 5th century, narrates the story of the Raghu dynasty. Composed in 21 Sanskrit metres, 'Raghuvansh' comprises 19 'sargas' or cantos. It followed the descent of the dynasty to which Lord Ram belonged, from the ancestry of King Dilipa. The descendants included figures such as Raghu, Dashratha and Ram himself, upto the life of Agnivarna. The exploits of Ram, the warrior, are well described in this classic piece of literature.
