Snow Falling on Cedars is narrated by Ismael who is the publisher of the only newspaper on the fictional San Piedro Island in Puget Sound. Most of the inhabitants of this island are either fishermen or strawberry farmers. There is sudden death of a white fisherman under suspicious circumstances, and the evidence points towards Kabuo Miyamoto, a Japanese-American fisherman. He was the last person to see the dead man alive. The story follows the trial of Miyamoto along with an interracial love story, a war story, an unsolved mystery and a fictionalized tale of life of the Japanese-Americans during and after World War II. Read it for an absorbing, enjoyable historical novel.
