Something Fresh is the first installment of P. G. Wodehouse's Blandings Castle stories. The character, Ashe Marson is a writer of detective novels. Tired of his life and aimlessness, he makes acquaintance with his upstairs neighbor Joan Valentine. They are both in need of money and adventure. They end up being at Blandings Castle pretending to be something they are not in order to steal back a rare Egyptian gem cut in the form of a scarab beetle, whose owner is Lord Emsworth. He is a very absent minded person. Everyone in the Castle has a reason to be roaming about at night and try to get a hand on the scarab for their own purposes. What follows is a circus of unlikely events, crazy conversations and misunderstandings. An amusing, witty and delightful tale of early 20th century which makes for a light and breezy read.
