Sophie's World is the story of a 14-year old Norwegian girl named Sophie. She begins getting letters from a stranger. These letters embark a correspondence course in philosophy by a teacher, Alberto Knox. He teaches her the major points of Western philosophy, starting with the Greeks to the 20th century and brief introduction to the universe. He sheds light on the significance of various discoveries and inventions of civilization and the influence they have on our thoughts and philosophies. With time, Sophie learns and begins to think about her world differently. Written in a light, young-adult way with short sentences and simple language, this book acts as both a novel and a history providing entertainment as well as education.
