As a six year old, Gerard Durrell had one dream: to own a zoo. However, what could have easily been dismissed as a child's fantasy, the author took to heart. He carried his childhood dream further to eventually owning his own zoo. The book is a vivid description of the author's firsthand experience while striving to build a world of varied fauna. The Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust is Durrell's brain-child and the story describes his struggle to make it one of the biggest wildlife conservation funds in the world. Appropriately named the "ark", the story talks about how the author tried his best to get his hands on rare, dying species of flora and fauna and housed them in his zoo, in a way, saving their existence. Anyone with an interest in wildlife or merely in the story of an enthusiast's life spent living his dream of befriending wildlife may read this wonderful account by Durrell.
