The Da Vinci Code

Jacques Sauniere, the old curator at the Louvre museum, is found dead one night, his body positioned like the Vitruvian Man. The crime scene is covered with symbols, to decode which, police Captain Bezu Fache calls upon Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon who happens to be visiting Paris. That Sauniere, apart from being a dedicated curator, was a Grand Master of the Priory of Sion, an ancient fraternal society, has much to do with his mysterious killing. When Sophie Neveu, a cryptologist and the dead curator's grand-daughter, secretly lets Professor Langdon know that he is the prime suspect in the murder case, what starts is a thrilling chase and the race to get to the bottom of the murder. The array of Fibonacci codes left behind lead the now absconding Langdon and Neveu, through the streets of Paris, into high security bank safes and finally back to London, in the quest of unearthing the real meaning behind Sauniere's last messages. This fictional piece of work combines the elements of history and culture with mystery to show the protagonist caught between a battle of two societies, the Priory of Sion and the Opus Dei. The sinister descriptions of the antagonist, an albino monk by the name of Silas, adds further layers to the story. The second book in the very popular Robert Langdon series sets the stage for a thrilling chase to decode ancient secrets by the Harvard symbologist and is a must-read for any follower of the Langdon series.
