Set in the 15th century Rome, this book depicts the rise and fall of the first family of Vatican during the Renaissance. Cardinal Roderigo Borgia who later becomes Pope Alexandre VI is the head of the family. He is an ambitious and powerful man with three sons and a daughter. He never rethinks to eliminate his enemies to protect his family. Determined to establish a family dynasty, Roderigo appoints his son Cesare the Cardinal on his behalf. He also sets to marry his children with the offsprings of noble families of France and Spain. But Cesare would rather be a soldier, and her daughter, Lucrezia would rather marry for love. Such conflicted desires among the family leads to risky politics.
