Mikhail Bulgakov's novel written during Stalin's dark period consists of three separate plots. Set during the 1930's in Moscow, there is a devil in the guise of a professor named Woland with his evil group. They tend to terrorize the city's intellectual community. Second, it contains the story of Pontius Pilate and his encounter with the spiritual man, Yeshua, two thousand years ago in ancient Jerusalem. Finally, there is the story of two separated lovers, the Master who is a writer whose life has been destroyed by Soviet repression and his lover Margarita. Their story interweaves with the other two stories. Filled with a lot of twists and characters, this book is a satire on communism and the evils of the system.
