The Power of One

This story is set in South Africa during the 1930s and 1940s. It is about a five-year-old frail English boy Peekay. In his very early life, he realizes that there are greater things at stake than the racial hatred between the Africans and the English. The growing racial tensions amidst the second world war in Europe and the beginning of Apartheid influences his world and challenges his inner strength. In spite of all this, he makes diverse friends and never loses faith in the goodness of people. Following the advice of his mentors, he makes a history in the game of boxing. He discovers that with loyalty, strength and compassion, a power is generated with which any goal can be achieved. This book is a tale of friendship, history, love and a small boy's refusal to be demoralized by the racial torture and success.
