This is the second book in the Lord of the Rings series by the author. It is preceded by The Fellowship of the Ring and followed by The Return of the King. The plot of the LOTR series revolves around the One Ring that Dark Lord Sauron had forged to rule over the universe by controlling the leaders of Humans, Elves, and Dwarves. The Ring had been taken off Sauron by the leader of Humans about a thousand years back. However, Sauron returns to acquire the ring while the Humans, with help from Elves and Dwarves try to defeat his evil designs. The LOTR series has been adapted into a blockbuster hollywood movie series.
