The story revolves around Victoria Jones, good at mimicry and lies. She meets a young man named Edward and gets attracted to him. But Edward has to leave for Baghdad. Since Victoria is not a person who is easily discouraged, she follows Edward to Baghdad. Baghdad is chosen for a secret summit of superpowers about the developing a secret weapon. Only a British agent can confirm the nature of this secret weapon. This agent dies in Victoria's room gasping out some cryptic words. This draws her into a world of shadowy plotting. And this is when she involves with many suspicious characters and endless troubles in order to find out the truth. There is an aroma of the Middle East post WWII in the Christie's descriptions.
